In some situations, you may want to provide your customer with a public facing link where they can view, download, or even pay the invoice online.
There are two ways to provide your customer with a public link to an invoice.
Manually Generating a Link to an Invoice
To generate a public link to an invoice, navigate to an invoice and click the Generate Link button at the top. From here, choose how long the link should stay active for. It is best practice to leave generated links open for the shortest amount of time possible.
Once you've obtained the link, you may include it in an email, document, or anywhere else you'd like to use it. Once expired, the link will no longer work and a new link must be generated.
Automatically Generating Links via Email
When configuring your invoice email or overdue reminder email templates you can include a template variable to generate a public link on your invoice. To do this, head over to Settings > Email Settings & Templates, then click on the appropriate email template you wish to edit.
- Invoice Email
- Invoice Payment Reminder #1
- Invoice Payment Reminder #2
- Invoice Payment Reminder #3
Use the template variables dropdown to include the [Invoice] Public Link variable into your template where you'd like the link to appear.
That's it, now when invoices and/or reminders are sent it will include a link for your client to access the invoice online. From here, they can view, download or pay the invoice (if applicable).
Expiring Invoice Links
If a customer has already obtained their invoice and would like to remove access to the link, they can click the Expire Now link at the bottom of the public link. This will delete the link and prevent its use in the future. If the customer would like to access the invoice again you will need to generate and send them a new public link.
